My name is Ellie Smith and I’m currently studying a an undergraduate degree in Game Development: Design at Falmouth University. I’m confident with a range of softwares such as 3DS Max, Mudbox, Maya, Unreal Engine, Unity and Adobe products such as Illustrator, photoshop and Substance Painter. I really enjoy how game design teaches me to look at the world in a comlpetely different way, asking me to question how seemingly ordinary or niche topics would translate into a virtual world or translating meaningful experiences to the player/user.
For example how can court/law, a serious topic be made humorous and exaggerated to make deciding on peoples fates after death a funny experience. Or how can a story be delivered in a conversational way with the player having freedom to influence the direction of conversation so they can interrogate the story from any point.
I love learning new things and I've particularly taken an interest in systems design to create meaningful mechanics for the player to engage with. I also have an appreciation for technical art and want to better understand the correlation between maths and art. Rain World is a game I admire for its procedural animation creating fluid/organic movements as well as the systematic design of how the world can function independant from the player instead of function based on the player.
